From Frank D’Angelo’s textbook Process and Thought in Composition (1977, 1980). The first line of the first section (“The Importance of Writing”) of the first chapter (“Preliminary Considerations”):

“Despite the claims of some students of communications that there is little need for people to learn to write in an electronic age, there is still an insistent and persistent cry for effective writing” (4).

And the last line of the same section:

“To learn to write, then, is to learn to think in a certain way” (5).
